update on the fairmont
Lets try and get the forum back on track from winge fest.
When we moved from Byron Bay to the Gold Coast a year ago, Kat brought with her a car she scored from a mate of mine 1962 xk falcon.
she then paid $800.00 for the custom trim, cream and magenta and we had plans for it, but we decided to sell it for something that was a little more done up, she sold it to "shippy's" mate.
And kat found out last night, his mate sold the car cheap without the seats and paint, so we are hoping to get them back so they can go straight into her fairmont.
some lucky bugger got his hands on a real good car.
After several tries to get rid of a major rear main leak, we scraped the 221 and purchased a 65 mustang 200. You would think they would be the same, but many small changes, but performance is great- very strong six. I had a few carby problems but now the only problem is that it runs well and starts easily all day, but if you leave it a few days the only way to get it going is to pour juice down the carby, if anyone has a clue please let me know?
The car has been lowered 2" al-round and looks cool. The roof had bad hail damage fixed and base coated silver. Kat wan'ts a lace paint job with SEM mandarine candy but insists on the tiki style look as well (hard to find lace that has hibiscus in it). This weekend should see the main body ready to paint- its going to be white pearl with lowsheen 2 pack clear and pinstripes (whoever is keen to do them).
Ive had the rims sandblasted and will paint them in 2k to match the roof, would like to fit lake pipes- might see about making some next.
If anyone has 4 cool hubcaps that will fit the 14" 4 stud falcon wheels let us know and we'll do a deal...

Re: update on the fairmont
Looking good so far. like the silver.
You wouldn't have the 221 block would you still? If you do could I buy it from you? I need a new block for when I rebuild mine with the 2vhead & 250 crank.
What was causing the rear seal leak?
My motor was doing the same thing, Turned out a little bung was missing from the carby & the fuel woudn't make it into the motor, so you had to crank it for ages OR put fuel down the carby.
Otherwise, the fuel pump not making enough pressure?

Re: update on the fairmont
perl white, same as mine
yep hes still got the seats and door cards, i cant believe what he sold the car for sum 1 got a seriously cheap car. If he had told me he was selling it i woulda baught it.
Yeh theres a couple of things u could look at for hard starting after time pete. first and probably most likely is the fuel pump. It has 2 valves inside. both only allow fuel in the direction of the carby. so if the valves are faulty gravity pulls the fuel back to the tank over time. The other not as likely is the needle and seat on the carby. Because even if the fuel in the pump and lines was drained back to the tank the needle and seat should prevent most of the fuel from leaving the fuel bowl and back through the lines. So u would think that there should be enough fuel in the bowl to at least get it running.

Re: update on the fairmont
well. If you still have it in a few weeks I'll buy it from you, unless someone else buys it before me.
did you paint strip the roof & do 2pak?
or spray acrylic over the origional paint?
I'm trying to work out what to do when it comes time to painting mine.

Not much at the moment mate. Got my dads ute and his Val coupe in the shed at the moment taking up all the space. once the ute is done then the EK wagon can get dragged in and i can start on it.
My Tonner is going strong, still needs a few small rust repairs and then the paint can go on. Looking forward to that
Will also be clearing a spot for the Topo and starting on the frame for it
Should be heaps to keep us busy for the winter
Cheers
Mick

I applied, 4 coats of hb epoxy, its an industrial 2 pack that is similar to bog, i put 3 coats of base coat silver over the epoxy and when we finally pick a lace we'll spray it charcoal and then many coats of sem mandarin candy, im thinking to do the spats the same as the roof.
need any help andrew, get in contact, especially when you need the paint
when can i catch up with you the zed to get them off you, have you got pictures?

Re: update on the fairmont
Sweet plans, cant wait to see the mandarin candy over the silver base. I looked for ages for hibiscus print lace, no dice. When you think about it, lace is mostly used by conservative old ladies for crappy curtains, they're not really into the topical thang
This one was painted by Matt Egan of eXtreme Designs, he used computer cut vinyl for the pattern.

Re: update on the fairmont
Well
We didn't think the Magenta and pearl white Trim and the Blood orange/mandarin would work together..Its going to be 'HOT' as Kat would say.
Still alot more work to go This is base coat, a few more to go. will keep you updated until complete.
She wanted bright, she got it bright.

Re: update on the fairmont
Looking good Pete! The colour should really pop in full sunlight, better get your shades....
Pedalcar has had all fabrication completed and put together in mockup form, now disassembled and had a light skim of bog over her to smooth it all out. Should hopefully get to the paint booth this weekend, if I can convince Tim to get it done asap. Get Kat to show you the pics on my myspace page.
Catch you soon.

Looking good pete. Like the lace job, it's come up nice!
Pedal car is painted and got her back together yesterday, just need to stripe it and finish the tuck n roll interior. I'll try and get some photos up soon, but Wintersun's only a month away anyway, so you'll see it then!
