Ivy Devine - Miss Pin-Up Australia Competition

Tue Aug 23, 2011 6:11 pm by andrew666

Alyce Sculte, also known as Ivy Devine, explains in the Paramatta Sun how she was obsessed as a child with Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and other pin-ups. "I was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe," she says, "I had a diary that had ‘property of Norman Jean Baker,’ Marilyn’s real name, written on it. I thought she was just so fabulous."

Now Alyce lives in a house in Winston Hills where Monroe smiles out of a picture frame on an antique dressing table strung with pearls. In her alter-ego of Ivy Devine, she is one of more than a hundred women who have entered the Miss Pinup Australia competition.

"My sister-in-law sent me a link and I simply thought, ‘Okay, I can do this’," Alyce explains, "I didn’t even really think about it, I just went ‘okay’. I’m quite extroverted but obviously I hadn’t done anything like this before.’’

Alyce has entered the Miss Perfect category and can be seen wearing period items such as polka-dot dresses, pearls and red lipstick. "Miss Perfect is a girl that possesses all of the aspects of the perfect pin-up – perfect hair, perfect poses," Alyce adds. "As well as looking the part you have to act the part. You have to constantly be in a lady-like stance, be able to speak eloquently. It’s no easy task. Particularly - when your hobby is to play rough roller derby on the weekends."

Somewhat scarily, Alyce concludes, "I’m like three persons in one. I’ve got my pin-up persona, my derby-dame persona and then every day me. I’m trying to separate the pin-up girl and derby dame because I don’t know if they could handle each other.’’
