Re: New wheels for my 65
They'll look great, i'd keep the bullet caps on, the trick with old time customising was to modernise ya car.
Those 3 bar caps will backdate your car too much as there from the mid 50's, whearas the bullets will spice it up and lift the look so it goes with your whole 60's era. The sixties custom was a lot less radical in the paint department unless it was a show car or lowrider.
I often say to people keep your mods to the era it was built, if its 60's sedan or 70's HQ it can't be an old skool 50's custom.
Mate those accessory gauges will look great and add to the early modified look plus there a shitload better than the stock idiot dash lights that only flashed minutes before a meltdown , the portawalls will add to the look your after and she'll look sweet once everything is on.
Where did you get em?.

Re: New wheels for my 65
Antique tyres is where the portawalls came from. I got the gauges through my work. The portawalls are for the stock 13" wheels i have a set of 195 whide whitewall tyres comming for the new wheels. They were not cheep, about $340 a tyre but well worth it. i had a set back on the weekend, hole in the gas tank so its drained and getting pulled out and welded up once i find the right person to weld it.

Re: New wheels for my 65
hey Naish, they look great. I've got the same gauge cluster in my XM coupe! Although the temp one doesn't work as I shorted the coiled sender cable out by accident while installing it! Lesson learned, disconnect the battery when running stuff through the engine bay!! You say you got them through your work, do you know if you can get replacement sender units for the temp gauge?
Cheers!

Re: New wheels for my 65
Hey Naish, The wheels look great but I am with Harry, you should keep the bullet Caps on, or go with a smooth baby moon. If you want to sell the bullet caps let me know. With the tires watch the Coker ones, they are not as good as people say, I had them on my Caddy, never again. And watch the stick on white walls they will cut into your tyres, just look em up on the net. Good luck with the fuel tank. Regards Milton
Re: New wheels for my 65
Milt - no love for the cokers? How come? I have some on my pickup but so far they have been ok, then again its done almost no driving since I put them on.
Re: New wheels for my 65
Yup, thats why no problems, na... hopefully I just got a Dudd set, as I bought ones with a 4inch white wall, $440.00 each and you could not balance them, once I bought them I thought the speed wobble was everything except what I thought it was, so I spent a lot of money replacing many things I did not need and in the end the tires started to wear all over the place, both sides and not the middle. Any way Antique tyres totally refunded the money so there was an official problem, and it was good they refunded money after having them for nearly 2 years.
Re: New wheels for my 65
Hmmm, thats interesting, I have mine mounted up on brand new smoothies, 4 inch numbers as well. When I got them fitted the guys were telling me that one of my rims wasn't true and they couldn't balance it properly. Maybe its the tyres! I got mine from the states too so no warranty for me! New i should have paid a bit extra for firestones!
Re: New wheels for my 65
You should get the guys at the tyre place to check the rims balance before they put the tyres on, I know its too late, but do it before the next set of tyres. My smoothies where new too and they were custom fitted to my caddy, so the guys had to weld up the centres, but with all the problems I had on the next lot of tyres we found out the rims were all spot on. Good luck though, hopefully it runs nice and smooth
Re: New wheels for my 65
Looks familar-except the ones on my wifes XP Fairmont are 15inch wheels, but besides that they are the same.
