We did these last week. And she got SO excited when I told her I could do that pinup shoulder stand thing. I've been able to do it since I was a weenie kiddie in preschool gym class!

kate o brien's work is awesome. she did a talk at my tafe when i was studying photography and she told us about how she does her shoots/the process etc. i know she goes out and buys all her antique props and such but $700+ a shoot still sounds a little pricey.

your new pics look amazing, i still love the sailor one you did with her its cute.

remember though kate started off playing with a disposable camera and a desk lamp as a kid. We all start somewhere and work up.
$700 on props is alot but she will use that same prop in different ways in hundreds of different shots.
If u look at her stuff they have alot of the same props in them. just modified or used in different ways.
Its a matter of being able to work with what youve got. Its just easier the more youve got.

yeah so i heard. i think she studied art and sculpting until she switched to photography in her final year of uni. that would of helped so much with props and ideas.

i guess it depends on what stuff she used for the shoot. she showed us (at tafe) one of her pics and told us how much everything cost for the set and it ended up being something like $65. i dont think the model would of paid for the shoot though because kate has used her before. but if she was to charge $700 (thats what her starting rate is) for a shoot like that then that would be expensive.

she's still talented. reminds me of eugenio recuenco.

yeh she did switch at uni. Kate keeps a few models as tfp but i dont think she accepts tfp any more. $700 is the going rate for alot of photographers these days depending on the style of shoot.
She is talented. alot of her inspiration she told me came from David Lachapelle. Hes also worth checking out.

Yeah given a lot of other shoots I've seen prices for, $700 really isn't that way out there The Shannon Brooke Shoots during Wintersun and such about $550 pop and you have to take your own outfit. Viva Van's cheapest package is $500 US (thats $687.182 AUD). Etc. Etc.

A lot of Kate's client work isn't posted on her myspace or her website. I've seen a few though and they are truly amazing! There was this crazy fruit platter and dinner setting for a band shoot and even an octopus! I hate to think how much and how far you'd have to go to buy a whole octopus.

Also she does a lot of intricate work like making those circular neck ruffs, individually gluing diamonties on ballet slippers, feather headdresses, stitching intricate edging on garments. She is making a website to sell all these amazing creations after she's finished with them. Her house is full of the coolest things. It's like a museum.
