Gangsters Ball
THE Gangsters Ball will transport people to the era of mobs and mobsters, feathers and fur for a night on September 3 at the Metro, Leichardt, Sydney.
The Metro Theatre will be transformed into a 1930s club with big swing bands, illusionists, cabaret and sideshow performances.
Organiser Graham Coupland says, “The big band swing music of that era is such happy music, it makes you want to get up and dance and puts a big smile on your face."
Grham is also the guitarist in The Velvet Set, a 10-piece big band who play authentic dancehall swing. They’ll be headlining the night alongside the best swing, rockabilly and rock and roll DJs. There will also be a Gambling Den with poker, roulette and black jack tables, pin-up models, a cocktail bar and 1920s themed photo booth.
Coupland said the dance contest is always a highlight of the night with prizes for the best dancers. The dress code is strictly 1920s to 50s gangsters, flappers, molls, burlesque, vintage glamour, traditional dance hall swing and rockabilly.
This year’s headline acts include renowned MC and Comedic Vaudeville performer Asher Treleaven, stunning Burlesque artist Gypsy Wood, acclaimed Acrobatics troupe This Side Up and Australia’s leading female Magic and Illusion artist, Cath Jamison.
