(this is for an article I'm thinking on writing for my zine btw, nothin' fancy.)

I'd like you lovely ladies to answer these questions. Ramble as much as you want.

1. How are ya?

2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?)

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you?

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why?

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same?

**Editted for the sake of elaboration**

1. How are ya? Working . . . I'm rarely in a fantastic mood whilst at work. Sad

2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?) I suppose I've always had friends that were into punk.. I've dabbled in the Indie scene as well as metal. I love metal. I found Rockabilly through American Republic which is 2 mins from my house.. I'm more into the old Hollywood lifestyle, Monroe used to cover the walls of my room.

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you? I love to bake, keep house, have picnics, dress up & do my hair.. I watched 'Gone with the Wind' as a young thing & it remains one of my favourite films for the wardrobe & style. I own a massive collection, new & old. My Grandmother is a seamstress & I've got all her clothes from the 40's, 50's & 60's that she either made or my great Grandmother made. (A bit creepy when you think about it.)

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why? Well, I'm not terribly fussed. My boyfriend is a dirty tradesmen in desperate need of more regular shaves. He's not into rockabilly much at all, he's more into punk/metal, tattoo's, cars etc

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same? I don't think it's changed me at all. I work in an office from Monday to Friday & there's really not much room to be different in a corporate scene... Most people in my office realise I'm a tad strange, I take pride in the way I present myself & always have cute shoes!
I love getting dolled up on the weekend too - none of my friends from school & old jobs are in to rockabilly so I have to tone it down a bit Crying or Very sad

1. How are ya?
biding time until various auctions on ebay end and i can go out and celebrate halloweenweiners.

2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?)
hummm...i was really into punk pop when i was an early teenager, turning into a sort of gothic lolita thing when i got a bit older (about 16). i always listened to a lot of punk, metal and traditional 80's hardcore music and stumbled upon the cramps and tiger army (who are not really psychobilly but i admit i still love them) around this time as well and i started to become more interested in that style over the past 3 years or so. i definitely lean more towards the psychobilly side in terms of style and music, but i really have started to like the more traditional rockabilly style as i get older (im 21 now haha so old) and look to wear less black.

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you?
SO much! to be honest i've always loved the thought of being a housewife, and the feminine figure of the 1950's always really appealed to me, with the perfect hair, the beautiful dresses and little cardigans. i love being able to feel pretty and truly feminine in full circle skirts and petticoats, and attract attentions not because you look like a freak, but because you look quaint and delicate. its like you can get away with playing up to being a girl without having to dress like a slut and play that 'stupid girl' game. plus i love baking and decorating my house and playing the housewife role, for some reason it gives me a lot of satisfaction. i love things to be pretty, and i guess the feminity is one of the main reasons i was attracted to this subculture in the first place.

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why?
I love it. Rockabilly or psychobilly, I think it is really attractive. Admittedly my boyfriend is a dreadlocked metalhead, but i still drool over the smokin' rockabilly guys i see at shows and clubs and around the streets.

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same?
in terms of presenting myself i tend to wear less black than i used to. dressing the way i do now ( a lot of pencil skirts and cute blouses and cardigans) gives me a lot more confidence because i know that i look good, and i dont need to try and impress anyone else. i guess im at a stage in my life where i feel more comfortable with myself, and i like dressing this way because it is both classic and cute. i wouldn't say a lot has changed in terms of my interacting with others, i just have more confidence in the way i look, and have something that i am passionate and wholly interested in now Smile

I'd like you lovely ladies to answer these questions. Ramble as much as you want.

1. How are ya? cherry

2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?) my father owning heaps of kustom cars and hot rods, did a fashion and marketing course found out that rockabilly was a style that went with my familys interest. before this i was a jay jays wearing supre' loving trashy byron bay hippie...im cool now ahhaahha

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you? only recently have i changed my style..to the more hollywood glamour pearls, soft curls, the way that rockabilly really was in the 50's..modern rockabilly is different, alot of leopard print, polka dots and skulls...oh but i love both styles..i just dont think mr elvis presley would have liked a girl wearing modern rockabilly he would have been like what the..but now..ITS HOT

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why? 'swoooooooooooooooooooon' i dislike surfers/chavs/modular/metro city beach wearing dudes.. but i love all fellas style that can be a little alternative or completly outrageously styling..oh how those psychobilly boys have confidence!

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same? Everything has changed for me, completly! the comments/compliments the looks both me and dave get..you get so pretty dumb questions also really funny ones usually 'do you guys dance rock n roll' or 'what cars do you guys drive' usually the idiotic dorks that drive subaru's and skylines call dave elvis or point at his hair..i put alot more effort into the way i present myself..i tend to shake my head at people who can't be even bothered to brush there hair and then THEY! raise an eyebrow at you.
i think today everyone is very lazy..i feel alot more comfortable walking around a car show or rockabilly gig than through a local shopping centre..people that dress alternative have alot of guts they dont care what other think of them they just think those people are less fortunate because they havent got a 'style' that they stick to..i wouldnt be part of anything else

1. How are ya? Busy. I'm a self-employed single mum

2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?) I was inspired by watching old movies on country TV (Dial M for Murder was about the only movie they ever showed!) and then, rifling through my mum's old 50s dress patterns I started sewing my own clothes. This was as a teenager back in the late 70's (I'm a bit older than you other gals here Very Happy )

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you? I love the traditional 50s glamour look. I love wearing high heaals and gloves and hats and seetting my hair. It was post-war extravagance and escapism back then, and i think that attitude can still be applied today.

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why? Again, I go for the more traditional loook rather than today's fashions. I think the Levis and Hanes look with slickback hair is hot. It stilll screams "James Dean" and "f*%^ you, buddy, I'm my own man" and also love the fleck jacket and black pants-with-a-skinny-belt look. *swoon* (I guess that would be the 50s equivalent of "smart casual")Just watch me go weak at the knees when a guy wearing great 50's vintage walks intot he room....... cyclops

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same? Well, apart from a brief hiatus when I exited the scene during my marriage to a non-rocker, I have been living the 50s dream for the last 20 years. My house was built in the early 60'. It is filled with stuff from the 50s/60s/atomic age. I dress only in vintage or repro and always wear 50s make-up. Also drive an Ek Holden. The only difference is I have toned it down a bit since my younger days when I used to do the full-on Marilyn Monroe thing 24/7. Very Happy

I think it's great that the rockabilly scene is still going strong!

1. How are ya? Trying to control my anger management probs hehehe had a poo day at work & people where bugging me. Other than that CHIPPER!

2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?) For me i guess it started when i was relatively young. It was probably my mum's & both my nanna's doings i think. hehehe what lead into it was probably the old movies i used to watch with mum all the time & i just loved the glamour. My faves where Marilyn Monroe, Gene Kelly & Elvis. Then i was fasinated with the 50's tv shows & started copying some of the fashions. Then got totally hardcore into it when i was prob 14 (nearly 10yrs ago now - my god im getting old! hahaha) & i've always been a fan of the music. They just dont make 'em like they used to hey. My look is a mix of 1940's/rockabilly/psychobilly i guess.

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you? A lot! I just thought the women where so hot & there was something slightly badass about them but they were classy & i liked that.

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why? Can you say QUIFF?!? Hot much? Rebels without a cause indeed.

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same? Being in toowoomba, i am prob the only person that dresses like it. Which is kinda cool coz u get a lot of good comments actually. I like makin' 'em jealous hahaha Cherry Chainsaw & i rock that shit! (am i allowed to swear on this?) well i just did. Embarassed

1. How are ya? Feeling slightly guilty that im enjjoying myself instead of studying......Stoked to have found this forum, i think it will be my new favourite pass time, comes in a close second, right after STUDYING FOR EXAMS, bah! Suspect
2. How did you get into rockabilly (what is your 'background', dabbled in other subcultures/styles before?) was cruising from a couple of different scenes, trying to find myself (insert cliche) just feel like this is the one, ive always dressed a little rockabilly-ish with out really ever thinking it was a style as such but now the more i look around the more rockabilly i see in me and everything i love... its fun, keeps things interesting,

3. How much did the 'femininity' aspect of rockabilly subculture attract you? Love it! Part of why i think i dressed in the style to begin with is because alot of the dress cuts etc suit my body shape, i love it, i feel wonderful!

4. What are your thoughts on guy's rockabilly style? Attacted to it? Why? It is pretty cool but i think its harder for guys to be a partial rockabilly kinda guy than for girls. My man dabbles, and when he does boy he looks good... but i may be a bit bias.... I love you

5. How has rockabilly subculture effected the way your present yourself and the way you interact with others? What has changed/stayed the same? i guess.... we are few and far between around here, so i guess its cool to kinda stand out from the crowd. Yes i do present myself differently from the majority of others and i liked it. I get compliments and then that makes me want to be even more out there.... arrh, i love it. *happy sigh*
