Mardi Grass: Nimbin: 2nd & 3rd of May
Hey all,
Just an advertisement for the Mardi Grass held annually in Nimbin.
This will be my fourth festival & I'm very excited about going & experiencing yet another wonderful sub-culture.
Mardi Grass isn't just an event for stoners & hippies, there are tattoo competitions, markets, food stalls & loads of entertainment.
Check out the website here; http://www.nimbinmardigrass.com/2009/
There is also a Combi run on Sunday which is fabulous to watch.

Nimbin's ATM's always run out of money. Huge Queues. Bring cash.
Hope to see some of you there! I'll be in my 60's dresses buying up some nice new hand woven shawls for winter.

i've always wanted to go! but i've heard from people (who are regular goers) that it's started to attract the wrong people more with each year. by that i mean the past couple of times there's been an increase of 'hooligans' causing trouble and taking other drugs like pills etc which isn't what the festivals about.
i never seem to have any money to get to the festival. oh well maybe next year. i've been to nimbin once, woah what a place, so fascinating.
have fun sianne!

Hi Emily,
You get the wrong sort at every festival. But I'm going to enjoy my campfire & pulling out some of my older dresses.
Nothing like a good excuse to raid ones wardrobe for lost treasure.

It went really well!
I do drug tests for work; my nights were filled with Midori, Coconut Rum, Lemonade & my palm tree hippy pants.
I spent a little bit shopping on some hemp cotton bags for groceries & I have a few other oddments from the market.
We got bogged trying to get out of town on the first night & no joke, 40 blokes helped push my boyfriends 1.8T ute out of the muddy gulley and back onto the road. So in thanks, we had a bunch of people climb in and on the ute & we went on a joyride through town!
It was fabulous, considering I asked the police officers where I could use a phone to call a tow service & they just told me it was my own problem.
It never hurts to start an argument with a high & mighty cop on their pretty ponies... arrogance annoys me.
But all in all it was fabulous - & YES I was offered drugs of all sorts by people of all sorts. But that's what the festival is about so really, it's to be expected.
I'll be there next year again with bells on!
